bye 2009

oh, 2009 you were a good year. 2 big solo shows, in a couple of art mag, sold some big stuff, gave my first "artist" talk (hell they flew out to sf for a day to do that one), got into a book, had a lot of good mnt bike rides, and got my roll!! but, 2010 think its going to a great year.

Honolulu art show

hey, for anyone in Honolulu. i have two paintings up in a group show. it's at the pegge hopper gallery in china town.

bling

one cool thing about being a bike nerd for more than 20 years. you sometimes find parts to didn't remember you had. just slipped a ti american classic seatpost into my globe roll. i love this seatpost! its helps smooth out the ride of any bike i have put it on.just nice little touch of bling.

oh, here a pic of my rides. well most of them, 3 bikes are not at my house right now (hell one not even in this country)

 

there was so much great art, by world famous artist, it was hard to remember to stop and take pics. well, i did get a few good ones.

best bar in miami

it's funny that during a week of super big and fancy art parties, that the one place that everyone goes is the club deuce bar aka "the deuce". even Anthony Bourdain stop in when he did his show in miami. when it comes down to it artist and the people that work in the art biz just want cheap stiff drinks. but one bad thing about the deuce, there is NO bike parking (hell that all of south beach). so, i had to make use of what i could.

so, one of the coolest things about art basel week in miami, is the random cool things the are going on. on the big opening night of the for most of the art shows there are always big parties. this year a lot my friends were going to the same party. i "roll" up to the bar/club on my bike, and there are 50 people with $$$ waiting to get in. as i am just about to go back to my dive bar of choice (more about the deuce later), a friend see me in line, and she just grabs my arm. next thing i know i am inside at the bar. there i find an old friend from high school bar-tending. she smiles and just hands me 2 whiskeys. too top all this off, as soon as i turn around George Clinton start playing. the whole night just kept falling into place.

art basel miami

well, its been a week since i got back from art basel in miami. after a month of 14hr studio days, and a week of drinking till 4am just to get up at 10am to talk about art all day. i needed a week off. for those of you that don't know about art basel. it's the biggest art "thing" in north america. is the closest thing the fine art world has to a trade show. it's f****** great! for one week all of downtown miami, and south beach is all about art. there are more than a dozen "fairs" going over the week. art basel miami is the biggest one, and as far as the satellite fairs aqua miami is one of the higher profile ones. so, i was stoked to get a chance to show there.


i have been going down down 5 years know. it's only a 5 hour drive from gainesville to miami, and as i tell all my art friend here "its irresponsible for any artist in fla not to go to art basel!" (you guys know who you are). this was only the second time that i have got to show in miami. this time i got to show with my fellow aleatoric art artist.

what is an aleatoric artist you ask. well here is our mission statement:

crazy art week in miami

i have lots of good pics and stories from my crazy week at art basel miami. but lets start with 2 vids i took with my iphone. 1st is me in south beach sat night traffic (beating friends to the party after dinner by 20mins). 2nd is riding back from a at the beach in key west.

bike lanes

i ride over the williamsburg bridge all the time when i am in nyc. there should be a bike lane there!

well, i know i have been slacking on the blog, but it's because of a deadline i was surprised with right before Halloween. i made 9 new paintings in one month. but the chance to show my work at the aqua wynwood art fair in miami (during art basel week) is to good to pass up for a normal sleep schedule. started off just making my panels out of alum, and its true, you can never have enough clamps! then it becomes hard to tell if i am making art or just a big mess. once the images are on the panels, it becomes all about layers of clear and color.




















































i am happy with the work. the screen i made turned our great! now its time to set up the show in miami. i brought my roll down, so lots of good pics to come!

just heard on bbc radio, men that are heavy drinkers are up 1/3 less like to suffer from heart disease (sorry ladies it doesn't seem to work for you). bring on the whiskey and bacon! just hope my liver holds out.

ding, ding

it took me a while to figure out how the mount a bell on my roll. the sweet one piece bar stem is to big around for any bell i could find. but, that's when its nice that my warehouse neighbor (aka studio neighbor) is my old friends and frame builder. a little raid of the local bike shop bells, plus a tap set from villin cycle works helped me get the ding back! yes the bell is mounted on the the brake lever. now i have bells on 7 out 8 bikes (still no bell on my sycip road bike).

it's back!

my globe blog is back on line! but, as it stands right now, all i can say is DEADLINE!! 14 hour studio days getting ready for art basel weekend in miami!

If only

if my sunday night drinking buddies all had money, they would all be buying globe rolls!

summer, summer, i love summer!

life in fla in the summer so rocks!

in the last week i been too two pool parties (one night pool party). got like 15hr of training on both the mnt and road bike (getting read for an eight hour SS mnt bike race next month). plus went to a chilli cook off for the harvest for hope fest.

next week its time to give my art studio a little overhaul.

A few days at the beach, and a Sunday pool party in Gville... Man I love summer! So, why the hell am I back in freezing SF? Oh yeah, i have to give a talk tomorrow night a Togonon Gallery. Back to summer time in the FLA on Wednesday.

One more thing. If you are ever looking for a good place to eat in the ATL airport, go to Paschal's in terminal A. Good southern restaurant (well for an airport, but not so good for you veggie types). I think I have eating almost everything on the menu in the last 4 months, I can't anywhere from Fl and not go threw ATL.

love summer

Man! I love summer in Gville... Yes I love the 90's with humidity on in the 80's. Great weekend of riding (70ml road ride sat, and all around town on the roll all weekend), pool party, fishing, bday party, and lots of Jameson (some margaritas with my gator tacos, and yes i do mean tacos with gator meat!)

enjoy the pics. oh, the lovely girl on my bike is Nicole Mazza. She was my studio assistant, but is moving to go to the Chicago Art Institute this fall. Remember that name! She is a bad ass artist.

I can't think of a better way to spend Friday, then happy hour at common grounds. I mean free burgers and dogs with tow for one drinks!

got my new globe roll. it's green, it's fast, and it's sweet. got it on the road right after i finished the hipp ride (the local FAST road ride). rode to the post ride tacos. (i have to say this right here that nothing beats mex food for a post ride chow down!)

first night it made the rounds to all my local watering holes. got some good pics.

well, here we go. i am still waiting for my new globe, but should have it soon. I am back in gainesville (or gville), its the first time in a while i don't have show deadline. so, i plan on riding my bikes (roll soon, road bike, single speed mnt bike), go to the pool (pics of that as soon as i can figure out how to post them), and a lot of time just kicking back in the nice fla summer temps sipping a drink or two. oh, and watching the tour (i hate the rest days).... more soon!!!!
